Soot and Smoke Damage from a Puff Back in Mount Clemens?

The National Fire Protection Association explains that the basic cause of a furnace “puff back” or “furnace puffs” is due to the ignition of an accumulated combustible mixture inside the furnace that ignites and passes through the boiler passes, ducts, and fans carrying the gasses of combustion to the stack. The explosion of combustible materials spreads an oily, sooty, and smokey mixture through the furnace ventilation system into the home or workplace, covering everything with oily soot and smoke residue. Yuck!

Fire insurance claim? We can help!

Having to cleanup after a fire is no picnic. This garage suffered from smoke and soot damage along with water damage from firefighting efforts. The smoke odor permeates the walls and is even worse the hotter the fire had gotten.

The material and content that is burned has to be taken into consideration. Plastics, for example, leave a thicker and more acidic soot behind. Organic materials, such as the cabinets, burn cleaner and finer but the soot travels broader within.

SERVPRO of Mount Clemens, New Baltimore can help you get through your fire loss.  We have crews available 24/7 for your emergency needs.  Call us at 586-598-5050.

Properly Installed Smoke Detectors in Macomb County Homes

SERVPRO of Mount Clemens, New Baltimore would like to share these suggestions:

  • We recommend that your home be equipped with smoke detectors outside and inside each sleeping area
  • Place a smoke detector on all levels of the structure (bigger homes require more detectors).
  • Closing doors will inhibit the movement of heat, smoke, and fire.
  • Test your smoke alarms at least every thirty days. Testing is done by pressing the test button to ensure each alarm is working.

  • Wet pipe sprinklers installed in the ceilings of commercial buildings are very effective in helping to fight the fire(s)
